Characterization of thermal behavior of materials at cryogenic temperature.
Specific information on the equipment/instrumentation:
- Temperature range: 400 – 4 K
- Magnetic field up to 14 T
- Measurement using relaxation technique
Samples/limitations:
Samples like metals, plastics/insulators or composite materials are possible
Limitation: size limitations maximum mass 200 mg.
Examples of typicaly analytical questions:
Temperature variation of the heat capacity in dependence of chemical composition or composite layout.
Fields of research:
To allow quantitative layout of cryogenic components thermal assessment of structural and functional materials is mandatory. Heat capacity measurements of different alloys, superconductors and composite materials support the development of cryogenic applications as cryostat-, magnet- or power-systems.
